On the other hand, software vendors are executing strategies to grow revenue and marketshare. In addition to traditional growth strategies, these software manufacturers are now relying on software licensing audits to achieve sales objectives.

Projects are broken down into three phases: 

 

  • Data Collection-  discovery of a vendors licensing contracts, renewal agreements, purchasing history, server and desktop/laptop inventory, SAM tool usage if any, and where a vendors software is deployed in your environment.

 

  • Data Validation- creation of a worksheet that captures what software is deployed, where it is deployed, how many licenses of each product is installed, and a comparison chart on what your software licensing allows you to deploy.



  • Remediation or Settlement-  gap analysis is performed, an associated financial cost is determined for any gaps, recommendations from Canyon Consulting on potential ways to remediate those costs, and a strategy to to settle with the vendor if it is in fact an official audit.
